Background

Faulu Advisory Services (FAS) is a limited company incorporated under the companies act. It was established to provide advisory and consulting services that facilitate the building of sustainable financial institutions for low income people and catalyze growth of micro, small and medium enterprises. The company has grown and currently has a nationwide reach.
FAS is governed by a three member Board of Directors and it's management team is made up of the Chief Executive and a team of well-qualified high caliber people with a wealth and blend of experience to match.

How We Work

The key to tapping the growth potential of micro and small enterprises in is to provide services that are geared towards building up institutions that serve this sector as well as the individuals engaged in this sector. At Faulu Advisory, we have a passion to see such institutions and micro entrepreneurs excel as individuals and in their businesses. Our success is measured by the success and growth of our clients. We focus our energies on listening and seeking to understand their ever changing needs, consciously aware that the business solutions of today may not necessarily be the solutions of tomorrow.

To us each and every client is important. We endeavor to meet and exceed their expectations, by building their capacity as individuals. We expect that the impact of our services will not only be evidenced through the success of our clients, but also the in the growing levels of performance in their businesses.

CEO's Message

Our Leaders

Good governance and leadership greatly determine the success of an Organization. These are essential throughout the changing phases of the Organization's life.  Faulu Advisory Services is reinforced with a mature experieced team of leaders who contribute to its strong foundation.

CHARLES WAITUIKA: Entrepreneur and Chairman of Faulu Advisory Services, he brings to the Board a wealth of experience.  He has vast expertise in the petroleum, telecommunications, real estate, FMCG sectors.  He is Managing Director of Graceland Holdings Limited, a Company involved in Real Estate Development, Construction And Project Management.

GERALD MACHARIA: Entrepreneur and Board Member, Faulu Advisory Services.  Gerald is Chairman of Trustmark Insurance Brokers Ltd. (TIB), Chairman of Tempest Consulting Limited, a Consulting firm specializing in Business Strategy Consulting.  He sits on various other Boards and is Chief Executive of the Bill Clinton Foundation, an American Private Foundation founded by former US President, Bill Clinton.

GEORGE MAINA: George Maina is a business consultant and Board member Faulu Advisory Services. He sits on various other Boards including NIC Bank Limited, African Investment Bank Limited, ICEA Limited, Unilever Tea Kenya Limited among others.

SIMON KIRURI: General Manager, Faulu Advisory Services, is responsible for the day to day operations of the Organization.  Simon has 10 years experience in accounting and finance and has worked in local audit firms and at Eagle Africa Insurance Brokers (Formerly Alexander Forbes) where he acquired valuable experience in insurance industry accounting matters. Simon has an MBA degree in finance from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the same university.  He is also a qualified accountant (CPA-K) and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya- ICPAK.

Strategic Objectives

The overarching objective of FAS is to develop effective methods of delivery of viable demand-led services to the MSME sector. Specific objectives are to: -

  • Identify, design, pilot-test, evaluate and re-design innovative products for MSME sector.
  • Promote the adoption of the micro enterprise products that have been developed.
  • To promote and provide learning opportunities for the target clients and hence facilitate the achievement of their self-determined development goals and dreams for the future of themselves and their families.
  • To foster an improvement in business practices, ethics and values.
  • To encourage disadvantaged groups to be involved in micro-enterprise through involvement in our programs.

Clients

One of our main clients is Faulu Kenya Deposit Taking Microfinance Institution (FKDTM) with over 250,000 clients.  We have partnered with the company for the provision practical capacity building products for microentrepreneurs.   In addition we also serve other clients including Non-Governmental Organizations, Government Agencies, and International Organizations.

    The institutions we work with are both local and international.

     

     Faulu Kenya Deposit Taking Microfinance Institution (FKDTM) is our main client with over 250,000 clients.  We have partnered with the Company for the provision of progressive staff development curriculum for their Staff as well as their Clients.    

     

    Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) - Faulu Advisory is currently represented in the Financial Education Partnership, a project of FSD as part of the working group on Consumer Education.  The project is aimed at educating Consumers on their rights and responsibilities as they choose financial services. 

     

    Financial Education Pilot Project  - This is a Financial Education Fund (FEF) project where  Faulu Advisory is the implementing partner targeting micro-entrepreneurs in Western, North Rift and Coastal Regions of Kenya for Faulu Kenya clients. 

     

    International Organization for Migration (IOM) – Faulu Advisory was the sole capacity building providers for the IOM Voluntary Assisted Return and Reintegration Program (VARRP) targeting returnees from the UK who were settling back into the country with the aim of starting businesses. 

     

    AMURT International - a humanitarian Organization.  We carried out an institutional assessment for AMURT International Sudan Office (a USAID requirement) and trained staff on Micro Credit management and operations.

    Our Staff

    To effectively meet the needs of our institutional clients and partners, Faulu Advisory has a pool of carefully selected staff with competencies that match our clients’ needs.  

    Our Trainers are equipped with Masters Degrees in Business Administration as well as Undergraduate Degrees in Business Administration.  We have gone further and exposed our Trainers to internationally recognized business trainings in areas such as:-

    • Master Trainers in Financial Education (FE):  This training is a global financial education program by Microfinance Opportunities (MFO)
    • ILO-SIYB trained trainers:  A training by ILO focused  on entrepreneurs who are in the process of “Starting and Improving Your Business”.
    • ILO – GET AHEAD : Gender Entrepreneurship Together training that focuses on women entrepreneurs starting their businesses
    • UNCTAD EMPRETEC certified:  This is an entrepreneurship Training on practical entrepreneurship.

    All our Trainers have been Trained in Adult Centered Learning Approaches.
